How can we promote sustainable transportation?
Megacities Program, Greenpeace International
Director of Megacities Program
2016-2018 | Mexico City + Global Remote
The large multinational NGO was struggling to understand the top level concerns of its supporters. I led development of a mobile engagement lab that helped us connect with city dwellers. My team of designers, lawyers, media producers, influencers, and scientists implemented urban interventions responding to the most pressing concerns of supporters.
How can an environmental organization help build the city of the future?
Traditionally, Greenpeace campaigning focused on environmental issues distant from the realities of city life. The organization realized that in order to maintain its relevancy and influence, it would need to begin to focus on issues closer to home. Health and well-being in cities became an area of great interest for the organization, and I was brought in to establish the first campaign focusing on issues like urban mobility and air quality.
A people-first approach
We needed to develop campaigns inspired by the needs and desires of our followers in cities. We deployed participatory research methods to connect with hundreds of followers and involve them in the process of campaign definition.
Convening a nation wide group of 40 young adults from cities across Mexico, I designed and implemented a week long creative workshop where we explored environmental issues across Mexican cities and worked together to create and launch a nation-wide campaign .
How can we inspire youth across the country?
We decided to build a mobile engagement lab, to tour Mexican cities monitoring air quality and educating the public on the benefits of sustainable transportation.
Participatory design workshop
I led the group through a participatory design + build workshop where we developed and launched a fully functional lab over the course of one month.
